Seating is nightly at 6:00, bar opens at 5:00. Chef Tony sets the menu!
The restaurant is child-free, with a minimum age of 18. Reservations during the summer and holiday seasons may be limited.
Whether you're looking for a beautiful steak, seared walleye, or mushroom risotto, you will be served the most nutritious, freshest meal, beautifully presented. Chef Dan is an incredibly thoughtful, creative executive chef, and continually delights guests with his fresh flavors and beautiful plating.
You can expect a multi-course, fine-dining experience for dinner and more casual breakfast and lunch options.
For our overnight guests, your meals are a part of your experience at Shortgrass and are included in your stay.
For over a century, Spearfish family farms have provided fresh produce to the miners near Deadwood and the ranchers on the plains. We're proud to work with locals that carry on that tradition.
We love to work with friends at local gardens like Fretless Farm and Bear Butte Gardens to help our executive chef create beautiful meals.
In true Midwest style, we love to feed our friends and family. Our onsite 2,000 square foot greenhouse and our 3-acre property in Spearfish supplies fresh produce (and eggs!) to the kitchen.
Stop by the greenhouse and say hello to Ren (our greenhouse manager) or chat with Chef Dan or Mixologist Alex as they select fresh herbs, fruits, and vegetables to use in the kitchen and bar.
The menu is *set* for dinner by the chef, based on what is available in the greenhouse and from our local purveyors. Here is a sample of dishes.

We have consulted with the best sommeliers, roasters, and brewers to offer you delicious local beverages, from your first steaming mug to your last relaxing sip. We do things for ourselves around here, and that includes brewing beer! With at least five local breweries, there is a brewmaster that has made options that will pique your interest. Our wine list has been hand-selected to include some expected favorites, as well as interesting international vineyards and unique blends and methods.
Our craft cocktail genius, Alex, creates extra special specialty cocktails. With a nod to local ingredients, Alex will create a complex, interesting libation you can find nowhere else. If you prefer long-time favorites, we have beautiful spirits to make the very best version. Alex creates many of his own syrups, mixers, bitters, and salts.
We also offer non-alcoholic speciality drinks, as well as beer, wine, sparkling water, and a selection of sodas.
